Mac OS X 10.10.3 and newer include Photos, which is intended as a replacement for iPhoto and can import its library. If you'd like to go on using iPhoto in addition to or instead of switching to Photos, clickhereand try following the instructions; you'll only be able to do so if you previously got iPhoto from or associated it with the Mac App Store.

You might want to begin using the new Photos app at this time because iPhoto is on it's death bed. It hasn't been supported by Apple for over a year now and is no longer able to order print items from the Apple Print Products Store. Also a couple of slideshow themes are not working with El Capitan. It inevitable that iPhoto will become incompatible with the system.

Besides, Photos has much more powerful editing capability and can use any 3rd party editing app from inside.
